We got to take our boys to Big Bend National Park this past weekend for a four day camp out. I was expecting it to be all dirt and cactus, but boy was I surprised. It was beautiful, it reminded me of home. Anyway we get to our campground and the first thing the boys do is find a tree that they ended up spending most of their time in, Anthony would have been happiest if he could have slept in the tree. The kids even named the stupid tree, Jupidev. UM, don't ask me. It was cute none the less. The first night at camp was...cold. It

was fun to hang out and just really relax. That first night we cooked hamburgers and had baked potatoes. Why is that everything always tastes so freaking good when your out in the woods. I really don't know why that is, but it was the best freaking hamburger and potatoes I have ever had. The rest of the evening we spent the time watching the kids run around and terrorize the rest of the camper. (I forgot to mention that we went with our friends and their two kids). We sat there and watched the stars come out, 0-ya and we played a little pinochle. I was really cold that first night so it was fun to bundle up with my little Conor Bear, he was such a cuddle bug.

The next day we went to Terlingua, an old mining town that is now a ghost town. There were many little sites to see. As we were driving into this town there were little shacks that used to be used as house for the miners. They weren't any bigger than your average living room. Very, very small. There was and old jail house. Of course the kids wanted to go inside and see what it would be like to be there. It was really pretty fun, they couldn't believe that people would really have to stay there with no real door. "Where would they go to the bathroom?" They are just used to the comforts of home. While there we visited a really old cemetery, there were some real old graves there. One thing I have never seen before, there were jars full of change. I guess that is for the gate keeper on the other side to let them in. Very interesting. We did take a few pictures there. After that we drove a little further down the road to a little village town. I can't remember the name of it, anyway it was right on the Rio Grande. We sat and had a little picnic right on the river and of course we had to do what everyone does when they are right there next to the river. We had to through a rock across to Mexico. I must be a wimp because I couldn't get my rock across the river. Of course Tim could and our little baseball player Anthony could. I don't think Jaren saw much use in throwing a rock across the stupid river. One thing is for sure, I didn't picture the Rio Grande being so small. That small river is the separation between us and Mexico. Very interesting!

After lunch we went to a little resort type place, there were some really pretty places to take some pictures, that is the reason we went to this place. Me, myself, I was ready for some ice cream. But the guys seemed to have other things on their mind. Anyway we took some pretty neat pictures while we were there. I will just take some time to show you those

right now. After the picture fest we headed to the real destination. Tim had been here before with his market team, when he came home he told me about a beer drinking goat. So we were headed to see the infamous beer drinking goats. On the way there Conor decides he wants to help daddy drive. We show up at this place and there are beer bottles all over. I guess there are more than just my husband that know about the beer drinking goats. So we get there and the kids are just so excited to see this goat drink beer. They don't think it is possible. So Anthony goes and finds a bottle that still has some in it. He walks up to the fence and over comes an eager, thirsty goat. As Anthony is quenching the goats thirst Jaren proclaims he wants to try. So Jaren finds a beer bottle and the eager (or maybe it was just a drunk) goat come over to get his share of the beer. For some reason the kids thought that was the neatest thing. It was cute to see the boys with this goat. On the other hand it was a little weird to see so many beer bottles lying around for anyone to pick up. I bet there are some eager, thirsty underage kids around that would take advantage of the free beer. I bet my eager husband would have taken advantage of that if it wasn't 97 degrees outside.

After the beer drinking goats we headed back to camp. It was a good day of site seeing, the kids were excited to get back to camp and back to their tree. That night we relaxed and sat around camp. Of course we had more good food, and played more pinochle. The next morning the Adams took the kids on a hike. Tim and I stayed at camp. Transversing canyon walls would not be possible with Conor Bear. While we were at camp some White Tail deer came to visit the camp. It is amazing how the animals are so used to people coming around the camp that they didn't even notice us. They weren't scared at all. Of course we had to take some pictures. Then later that afternoon some Javalinas came through camp. Same thing, they weren't even fazed by us being there.

That is about it for the adventures of camping starting the Walsh family. It was a good time and it was a beautiful area. There are no complaints about the trip. Well maybe one. My car was extremely dirty, and it wasn't fun cleaning it out. But the shower when we got home felt really good, they always do when you have been out camping. I will leave you with some pictures of beautiful Big Bend National Park! Absolutely beautiful!
